Some Things Never Change

lyrics

Some things never change

I’ve seen a man sitting in front of a shack
Whiskey bottles filled with gas on a rack
With a friendly smile trying to make a few bucks
To better the life into which he is stuck
Busloads of tourist for a quick picture shot
Hurrying back to the air con, it’s far too hot

I can’t hardly believe these things that I’ve seen
Feels like walking in a bad dream
Glamour here and utterly poverty there
Comfort only in many a prayer
Everywhere the same, ain’t it strange
Some things never change.

A step away it’s just another place
A hundred frown lines painting a mother’s face
With Daddy gone how can she make ends meet
With all the hungry mouths she has to feed
Begging from the traveller who just takes a shot
He never cares he hides in his lot

I can’t hardly believe...

A moment of sympathy before we go on
Nothing to linger, nothing to hold on

But you don’t have to go far to see the night
Just outside the corner, by the river side
Searching for shelter at the stations or in the parks
The shadows gather, nameless life after dark
Hopeless paths on which they trod
Our left-overs thrown away to rot

I can’t hardly believe...
